Argos top online UK retailer in July 2008
Argos.co.uk became the UKs top online retailer in July 2008 according to a report from Hitwise. Argos held around 1.69% of the market, with its nearest rival, Tesco holding 1.27%. Great news for Argos you would think, but overall the actual spend and retention on the high street is 2.6% less than July 2007 - showing that the credit crunch is biting hard for high street and online stores.
Argos will be happy though, staying ahead of the game will help in the run up to Christmas when it is widely believed that the decline in online and offline sales will be bucked and a new growth online will occur.
